So recently I've been going through the book of Ecclesiastes in my devotion time and yowsa was it fun. Truths: All is vanity and Fear the the Lord and Keep His Commandments. Pretty much the theme for me personally I was encouraged by this book. Solomon in his wisdom lived well and played well and at the end of it he reminds us to know God in our youth. I've been hibernating in various passages over the few months that it took to get through it.. and here are a few of my favorite verses... and this will take a while because I want to share from every chapter.
Chapter 1
v 2 Vanity of vanities says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity... What a great beginning! Everything is meaningless. Well if that isn't a humbling statement especially for us who are proud in so many trivial things here on earth.. Guess what.. all of it vanity.
v9 What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. This verse makes me think of the futility of our desire to be immortalized. Previous verses state that generations come and go the state of even our elements are not constant. There is always a season for everything... and in the end everything that is has been before. We seek glory within ourselves in success, in power, in beauty, and we deceive ourselves into thinking we are to be remembered. I love how this verse puts us in our place... Hey you!! yes you down there with your nose in the air.. What you are doing is nothing new. Kings fade, Kingdoms fall. God remains faithful to his word and whatever we think we have tried, built, created, thought of, whatever sin, deception, foolishness we've indulged in is absolutely nothing God hasn't dealt with seen, forgiven, allowed, known before. Nothing new.
Well must cut this short... will resume later
